We participated in the Mar y Lava event on the island of La Palma

Between 9 and 13 October 2024, for the first time in Tazacorte, an environmental awareness conference on the marine environment called "Sea and Lava" was held, organised by the Tazacorte Town Council through the Department of Tourism and Beaches, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands.

A wide range of activities related to the sea were organised, including a gastronomic fair, workshops, exhibitions, talks, cinema and coastal clean-up, all aimed at raising environmental awareness, bringing together the scientific community, public administration, associations, the hotel and catering sector and the general public.

On 12 October, RedPROMAR took part in the Mar y Lava Fair, within the framework of this conference, with an informative stand and activities/workshops on best practices and identification of marine biodiversity in the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN). In addition, the photographic exhibition with the results of the first campaign of biological observation and underwater exploration in apnoea, within the context of citizen science, as part of the project Biological monitoring of the lava deltas, which is being carried out in this same municipality, was also on display.

We would like to thank Tazacorte Town Hall for supporting initiatives like this one and the Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN) for sharing the space and supporting us during the event. And, of course, to all the people who passed by the stand and with whom we shared the day, we hope you enjoyed it!

This project is co-financed by the European Union as part of the Canary Islands ERDF Programme 2021-2027.
